About Us How to Order Special Sales

Hello!

Welcome to Nancy's Trunk! I'm Nancy and I'm the quilter and the fabric lover.

My Grandmother, Mary Jennie Linn Lathrop, taught me to sew when I was 10 years old; I learned on her treadle sewing machine. She was always working on a quilt. She made pieced quilts but her real love was Sunbonnet Sue, Scottie Dogs, and Kitten quilts. (I am planning to make her patterns available when I locate all of them). I used the sewing skills she taught me to make clothes for myself while I was in high school and when my three children were small I made nearly everything they wore. I made shirts for my husband and I also made quilts. I used to make quilts for my girls and then make them doll quilts to match. Long story short, I love fabric and sewing. When the kids were teenagers I didn't do much sewing, didn't have time. The kids are all grown now and I am back to sewing, mainly quilting. I've lost my desire to make clothing, but I started piecing quilts. I've always wanted a fabric store but it just never worked into our lifestyle.

We are "in the country" about 20 miles from Stillwater Oklahoma. (see map) When I started discussing opening a fabric shop and finally convinced my husband that I was serious, we started looking at buildings to rent in Stillwater but there were so many drawbacks, high rent, and a 20 mile drive one way to work every day. I just couldn't get myself to commit to that, something didn't seem right about it.

Of course the webstore is open 24 / 7 and at the present time I do not have a walk in store because I am traveling the US and vending at quilt shows.  I have a big sale at my shop a couple of times a year.  If you want to be notified click on the "special sales" and send me an email.  I'll notify you of my next "in store" sale.  Click on the "quilt shows" link and see what quilt shows I'll be attending.

As for the Big Green Trunk, my husband bought this for me about 30 years ago and the story he got when he purchased it was that it came to Oklahoma in the Land Run. It was painted solid gray, inside and out. It took me weeks to get all the gray paint off and underneath the paint the metal and wood was beautiful. Since it was an alligator grain metal covering I decided to paint it green and left the wood natural. It has been used for quilt storage all these years and now it has become my logo and the inspiration for the name of my business, Nancy's Trunk.
