About Us How to Order Special Sales

This pair of quilts was made by two sisters in Oklahoma in the early 30's and will be sold as a pair. The pair was appraised at $1500 for insurance purposes.  The quilts are almost identical.  A very unusual butterfly pattern, almost looks like a moth.  One quilt measures 67" x 88" and the other one measures 65" x 92".  Each one has a different initial on the back.  It appears to  me that one of them may have been laundered (the shorter one) as the pink and blue is just a tiny bit different shade than the other one.  Neither quilt appears to have any wear, I would consider them in "unused" condition.  Both quilts have some minor staining.  The backs have some brown stain which the appraiser felt to be from storage in a cardboard box, the stain does not go through to the front.  There are a few minor brown stains on the quilt tops.  I notice some minor fading where the quilt was folded on the back.  Both quilts have pink backing.  I find no holes or tears.  The blocks are approximately 12" square and the blue and pink sashings measure 3 inches together (approx 1 1/2" each).  The corner stones are 4 patches that measure approx. 3" square.  The quilts are hand pieced and hand quilted, the appliques have blanket stitching and the butterfly antenea are embroidered.   I feel certain the batting is cotton and possibly a layer of batting under each butterfly..  The butterflies measure approximately 8" in length and 8" across the wings.  Beautiful vintage fabrics in the butterflies, some being feedsack.  The price for the pair is $995.00 plus $25 US shipping and insurance (Oklahoma residents add 5% sales tax).  Contact me if you have questions or would like to see more pictures.
